Lichtenstein and Christo Highlight Wells Fargo Advisors Art Exhibit

Florence, Alabama, October 20, 2009 – Several works by renowned artists Roy Lichtenstein, Christo and Jeanne-Claude will be featured in Landscapes:  Selections from the Wells Fargo Advisors Corporate Art Collection, presented at the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts beginning on November 6th and running through December 31st. The Florence branch office of Wells Fargo Advisors will sponsor the exhibit of photographs and works on paper from the St. Louis-based financial services company’s art collection.

Lichtenstein—one of Andy Warhol’s contemporaries—parodies traditional landscape imagery with his distinctive Pop style in his print titled Landscape.  Also included in the exhibit is Running Fence, a collage and lithograph triptych that documents a five- -year land-art undertaking by husband and wife team Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The project   involved creating an entirely new landscape by erecting an18-foot-high fabric fence that snaked to the Pacific Ocean over 24½ miles of rolling hills in California’s Sonoma and Marin counties.

Consisting of 13 pieces, the Wells Fargo Advisors exhibition features a broad range of locations while offering a variety of artistic techniques and interpretations.

“These are striking works of art, and we are very pleased to be able to bring this collection to the Florence community,” says Wells Fargo Advisors branch manager Tom Ross. “These pieces cover a number of diverse landscapes, and we hope visitors will enjoy this visual journey.”

Originally created as an A.G. Edwards program in 1991, the traveling art exhibition program enables  branch offices to partner with local art institutions and share  selections from  the corporate collection with  their communities. Since the program’s inception, the branch offices have sponsored exhibitions at more than 90  art institutions across the country.  Wells Fargo Advisors maintains a collection of art that includes paintings and works on paper, including prints, photographs and vintage posters.

The Landscapes exhibit will be on display at the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts, located at 217 East Tuscaloosa Street, from Nov. 6 through Dec. 31. The center is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For directions or more details, call the center directly at 256-760-6379.
