Knoxville, TN- Ward Dobbs' 24-yard interception return proved to be the difference as the Wyoming Cowboys spoiled the Tennessee Volunteers' Homecoming with a 13-7 non-conference victory.

Wyoming's (4-6) offense was held in check, as Chris Stutzriem completed only 8-of-16 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. Devin Moore carried 32 times for 98 yards (3.1 ypc).

The Vols (3-7) didn't fare any better offensively. Starting quarterback Nick Stephens was benched in the second quarter, after completing only 3-of-9 passes for 27 yards and two interceptions. Jonathan Crompton came in and completed 11-of-27 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Stephens was intercepted on the first drive of the game by Mike Neuhaus, who returned it 55 yards to the Tennessee 4. On the next play, Stutzriem found Greg Genho in the end zone to give the Cowboys an early 7-0 lead.

Stephens punched his ticket to the bench at the nine-minute mark of the second quarter, when he threw a pick-six to Dobbs. Wyoming's extra-point attempt failed, making it a 13-0 game.

Crompton got the Vols on the scoreboard at the 10:08 mark of the third quarter, when he connected with Gerald Jones for an eight-yard touchdown pass. But the Wyoming defense held its ground the rest of the way.

The loss prevents the Vols from becoming bowl eligible in what will be the final season of 17-year coach Phillip Fulmer.

Final Score: Wyoming 13, Tennessee 7
