Vols S Eric Berry playing with shoulder injury
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee safety Eric Berry has played all season with a hurt shoulder.
Coach Phillip Fulmer revealed Tuesday during his weekly news conference that team trainers had been helping him to manage an old shoulder injury.
Fulmer was not specific about Berry's injury but said it may need a closer look in the off season.
The coach indicated the injury combined with the lack of depth at safety is why the sophomore has seen only one snap on offense this season.
Berry is a former high school quarterback and has practiced with the Vols' offense throughout the season at both wide receiver and in a special quarterback package.
He has a Southeastern Conference-record 442 career interception return yards and is third on the Tennessee team with 64 tackles this season.
Tennessee (3-7, 1-5 SEC) travels to Vanderbilt (6-4, 4-3)on Saturday.
